Optimizing Experimental Simulation Design for the Emergency Departments

Abstract: Goal: this research aims to use the experimental simulation method is to obtain the optimum results by using the simulation technique of the models which are modeled mathematically but not solved. Design/Methodology/Approach: a case study was conducted to apply discrete-event simulation (DES) approach based on design of experiment (DOE) technique to derive strategies and analyze situations in an emergency department (ED). Results: by integrating the DOE approach with the DES technique for the ED, the average w… Show more

“…The design of experiment approach developed by Ronald Fisher in the early 1920s is widely used in many scientific fields that require experimentation [5], [17]. The central concept of the design of experiment is that it deals with the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable in detail [18].…”

“…In this study, some of the chemical processes are considered independent variables. The design of experiment is used by researchers in many fields, especially in studies that require experimentation [5]- [8]. In some studies, not the production of raw sugar, but the experimental design method was used to increase the yield from sugar beet, which is the raw material of raw sugar [9].…”

“…In addition, statistical analysis of the simulation results must be performed, the complexity of which depends on the experiment design. For example, Atalan and Dönmez (2020) report the design of a large-scale, full factorial simulation experiment that was used to reduce patient waiting time in an emergency room by about 75% and increase the number of patients seen by about 10%.…”

“…The patient must be transferred to a hospital that does not have the closest hospital but has sufficient personnel (physicians, nurses, technicians, etc.) [29] and equipment to respond to the complaints of the patients. This study included a case study with actual ambulance dispatch data.…”
