Optimizing Energy-Efficient Query Processing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Query processing in sensor networks has recently received significant attention from the research community. Processing queries in an energy constrained manner is a crucial challenge as nodes are typically energydeficient. In this paper, we present a query optimizer for sensor networks. Central to the working of our query optimizer is a cost-based analysis to estimate the overall energy consumption associated with a given query plan over the lifetime of a query. By utilizing this estimation technique, our quer… Show more

“…In [10], sensing and routing, data and metadata collection are incorporated into a query optimizer in order to find the best query execution plan with the least energy costs. In [11], basic database operations such as read/write and join operations are assigned power profiles, and a query plan is assigned a power cost as a function of the operations used to execute that query plan.…”
