Optimizing clinical outcomes for endoscopic lacrimal duct recanalization in patients with complete PANDO

Abstract: The study aims to describe modi cations and re nements in the technique and technology of Transcanalicular Endoscopic Lacrimal Duct Recanalization (TELDR) based on anatomical foundations to optimize its clinical outcomes in patients with complete Primary Acquired Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction (PANDO). MethodsThe medical records of 115 patients who underwent Transcanalicular Endoscopic Lacrimal Duct Recanalization procedures from January 2018 to July 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. Of the 115 patients, only… Show more

“…Conventional nasal endoscope or nasal examination is still effective for the detection of submucosal insertion, since it enables detection of the direction and site of submucosal insertion at the sac and NLD [ 59 ]. Recently, DE-assisted recanalization and balloon dilatation of the NLD using the Ophtacath Lacrimal Duct Balloon Catheter (FCI Ophthalmics) were reviewed with 95.6% anatomic and functional patency test in 115 patients [ 60 ].…”

“…It may inspire future tube design. Limitations of this retrospective observational study include the absence of a control group in which another surgery was used [44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51] . Intubation was only performed in complicated cases and postoperative care varied among different cases, which limited the comparison.…”

“…Although various attempts at nasolacrimal duct recanalization and subsequent intubation with less invasive alternatives have been made over the last twenty years, considerable work has to be done before they can match the success rates of dacryocystorhinostomy surgeries [13].…”
