Optimized High-Aspect-Ratio Diffusional Micromixers

Abstract: This part of our work has been aimed at designing, manufacturing and characterizing effective micro-mixers which are cheap, durable and easily integrated on a variety of bio-chips with emphasis on those performing Polymerese Chain Reactions (PCR) and Ligase Detection Reactions (LDR). A key contribution is the development of an optimization procedure for the design of passive micro-mixers utilizing high-aspect-ratio micro-channels (HARMC). The optimization procedure identifies the optimum type of mixer on the b… Show more

“…The first passive diffusional micromixer was designed based on previous studies [45; 46] to combine the PCR products with the ExoSAP-IT ® enzyme mixture at a 1:1 volume flow rate ratio. The diffusion channel was 34.4 mm long with a width and depth of 40 μm and 60 μm, respectively.…”
