Optimized Design of Concrete Structures considering Environmental Aspects

Abstract: This contribution describes a formulation of the optimized design of structures using the probability-based optimization method. The Monte Carlo simulation method, modified by the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) method, was used for the calculation of the reliability of a designed structure. Efficient design procedures can achieve not only cost savings during construction (materials and energy), erection, servicing, maintenance, disassembly and material recycling but also a more favourable environmental impact.… Show more

“…DOI: 10.14736/kyb-2018- An important issue regarding the design is its reliability (see [12]). In the context of this paper the reliability of the design will mean that the constraints in the resulting optimization program should hold with high probability.…”

“…where C C and C S are the cost of concrete per m 3 and the cost of reinforcement per kg, respectively, and V C and W S are the volume of concrete in m 3 and the weight of reinforcement in kg used in the structure, respectively. It is possible to extend the objective function to include other aspects and evaluate the structure from the aspect of cost or the impact on the environment of the whole life cycle: see [3].…”

“…The environmental aspects of the construction process phase, some types of transport and the unit costs and environmental impacts of the end of the structure´s life cycle are referred to in [6] and [7]. The assessment of the quality of a design with regard to the above-mentioned aspects can be performed in advance with the help of a criterion set -a design quality criterion (e.g.…”
