Optimized and Robust Design of Tires Based on Numerical Simulation

Abstract: This publication presents a numerical approach for analyzing tires based on multiobjective optimization, with particular consideration of uncertainties. Within the optimization, which uses evolutionary algorithms, the evaluation of a three-dimensional, finite element tire model at steady-state rolling is performed. To obtain a reliable and high-quality design, data uncertainty caused, e.g., by variation in production conditions of the tire components, as well as incomplete information concerning loading, have … Show more

“…Numerical modelling by the finite element method (FEM) is now a strong presence in R&D practice in tyre design [1][2][3][4]. The combination of numerical modelling with solution of nominal optimisation problems makes it possible to shorten the development time considerably and to improve tyre characteristics created as a result of solving optimisation problems, and also to take into account the possible indeterminacies in the variation in the technological parameters of tyre production [5,6]. Visualisation of the stress-strain state in individual tyre parts makes it possible to carry out strength analyses and selection of reinforcing materials, e.g.…”

“…The study proposed an approach that combines the multi-objective optimization method with finite element technology in sake of tire structure optimization, 7,20,21 aiming to solve practical engineering problems more accurately and quickly. Taking the burst problem of 12.00R20 all-steel radial tire during use as a case, the width optimization method of tire belt layer with objective of improving tire durability was introduced in detail.…”
