Ilex paraguariensis is an important forest species in Brazil. Recently, the development of new products has increased seedlings demand and consequently, the interest in new products to use as substrates like residues from industries. We aimed to evaluate the viability of using industrial residues as substrates to produce yerba mate seedlings. We formulated thirteen substrates with coconut fiber, carbonized and decomposed yerba mate industrial residues in different ratios, which were compared to two commercial substrates, in a completely randomized design. The stratified seeds were placed in 110 cm³ tubes filled with the substrates. Plants were kept in a greenhouse for 135 days, shade house (70%) for 30 days, and rustification area in full sunlight for 15 days, under fertigation after 30 days of sowing. We evaluated montlhy the survival, height, and stem diameter, and at the end of the production period, we evaluated shoot and root dry mass. From the data obtained, we calculated the total dry mass and ‘Dickson quality index’. The substrates formulated with coconut fiber and decomposed yerba mate industrial residue can be used to produce yerba mate seedlings, but it depends on the ratio of the substrate components. Substrates with higher total porosity and microporosity provided seedlings with biometric characteristics similar to those produced in commercial substrates. The carbonized yerba mate residue reduced seedling growth when used in a percentage equal to or higher than 50% in the substrate.

The Internet of Things is an emerging information industry. Applying the information collection, transmission, and processing technologies in the Internet of Things technology to environmental monitoring, environmental emergency, and other environmental protection supervision fields will greatly improve the speed and accuracy of environmental supervision and facilitate the scientific development of environmental protection. Through the Internet of Things, people can obtain a large amount of reliable real-time information, and it is not easy to be affected by time, place, and environment, while the wireless sensor network has the advantages of easy installation and low cost, so environmental monitoring through the Internet of Things is the future development trend. In this paper, in view of the current situation of water scarcity and serious water pollution in China, combined with the development trend and advantages of the Internet of Things (IoT), and based on the inadequacy of the existing microbial sensor data collection equipment, we propose a design scheme of microbial concentration monitoring system for waters based on IoT. The system is based on Zig Bee wireless sensor network to build a common data acquisition platform and design special hardware to carry out high-precision microbial sensor data acquisition in water and through the PC to complete the real-time measurement data storage, waveform display, and data processing. In this paper, the schematic diagram and PCB board design of the system hardware module NUC120 main control board, CC2530 RF board, Wi-Fi wireless communication module, and high-precision ADC acquisition module are completed and fabricated. Then, the four modules are combined to realize the development of the data aggregation node and data acquisition node of the dedicated Zig Bee wireless network hardware device.

Eugenia uniflora is a fruit tree of the Myrtaceae family, native to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay that has high potential for use in landscape and environmental projects, food and pharmaceutical industry. However, information on the production of quality seedlings is still scarce. The objective was to identify the appropriate substrate and its characteristics, in relation to the water regime for the production of E. uniflora seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, in a factorial scheme, with four types of substrates being tested (S1: 100 % peat -commercial substrate (CS), S2: 80 % CS + 20 % Carbonized Rice Husk (CRH), S3: 60 % CS + 40 % CRH and S4: 40 % CS + 60 % CRH) and five water regimes (WR) (4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 mm day -1 ). Height, stem diameter, dry matter and Dickson's quality index were evaluated. Factors influenced the measured attributes in isolation. Seedlings grown in S1 showed the highest growth and accumulation of dry matter. Results are 72 % and 41 % higher than those shown by S3. Eugenia uniflora showed superior growth and quality of seedlings under smaller WR. The use of peat-based substrate, combined with the use of 4 to 8 mm WR day -1 , provides rapid development of E. uniflora seedlings in a nursery.
