Optimization of water treatment plant flow distribution with CFD modeling of an influent channel

Abstract: In the design of water and wastewater treatment plants, proper flow and solids distribution can be as critical as process design considerations. Insufficient treatment and even plant failures can result from unequal and unmanageable flow and solids distribution. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling is a valuable tool in the evaluation of flow distribution to multiple units within a treatment process. This article reviews the benefits achieved by performing a CFD analysis of an Infilco high-rate dissolve… Show more

“…También, se estudió el efecto del ángulo aguas arriba en un flujo sobre un vertedero trapezoidal y las herramientas de código abierto de Openfoam [5]. Heyrani validó su estudio de canales abiertos con el coeficiente de determinación (R 2 ) y error porcentual absoluto medio (mape) [9].…”

“…It may cause an uneven distribution of carriers [30], and different CFRs may lead to different αSOTE values. For the third possibility, the fouling of the diffusers had a more noticeable effect on fine-bubble aeration systems [39,40] but had little impact on coarse-bubble aeration systems [41]. Therefore, the reason for the difference in the distribution law of the fine-bubble and the coarse-bubble aeration systems may be different.…”

“…Wastewater treatment process faces numerous problems due to poorly designed influent bioreactors that resulted in a significant mal-distribution of flow. Wide inequalities of distribution are often revealed through visual examination, float testing and tracer testing approaches [5]. With the improvement of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the numerical modelling is a valuable tool used by many researchers to predict and evaluate the effect of hydrodynamic behaviour on the bioreactor performance.…”
