Optimization of ultrasound‐assisted extraction of polysaccharides from perilla seed meal by response surface methodology: Characterization and in vitro antioxidant activities

Abstract: In this study, response surface methodology was employed to optimize the ultrasound‐assisted extraction (UAE) process of perilla seed meal polysaccharides (PSMP). The optimal conditions for UAE of PSMP were: liquid–solid ratio of 26.00 mL/g, ultrasonic temperature of 43.00 °C, ultrasonic time of 52.00 min, and ultrasonic power of 229.00 W, the optimal conditions lead to an yield of 6.137 ± 0.062%. The structural characteristics of molecular weight, compositional monosaccharides, and glycosidic linkages were de… Show more

“…However, despite the use of methanol tends to obtain better extraction yields, ethanol is preferably chosen because of its lower toxicity [10]. For example, distilled water and ethanol are usually used for pigments extraction, while water is the most common solvent for the extraction of polysaccharides and amino acids [12,20,21] (Table 1). Furthermore, European Directive 2010/59/EU lists the solvents that can be used for the extraction of compounds from foodstuffs, as well as their uses and limitations [22].…”

“…DPPH radical scavenging activity of PSMP‐1 was determined according to our previous method (Zhang et al., 2021). Briefly, a 60 μmol/L ethanol‐free DPPH radical solution was prepared.…”

“…On the basis of single factor experimental results, the extraction of TFs from X. sorbifolia Bunge flower was optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM) [ 22 , 23 ]. In this study, the Box–Behnken design method provided by Design Expert 11 (Stat-Ease Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA) was selected to guide the experimental design with four variables (extraction temperature, ethanol concentration, solid–liquid ratio, and extraction time) at three levels, whose response value was the extraction yield of the TFs (Y) [ 24 ]. The Box–Behnken design method with four factors and three levels consisted of 29 randomized experiments [ 25 ].…”
