Optimization of UAV 3D trajectory in a post-disaster area using dual energy-aware bandits

Abstract: In a post-disaster area, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are considered one of the most effective ways to provide emergency wireless communication services. In this letter, we investigate the UAVbased emergency wireless communication network for a post-disaster area. Our optimization problem aims to optimize the UAV 3D flight trajectory to maximize the number of visited ground users during the flight round. Then, a dual-cost-aware multi-armed bandit algorithm is adopted to tackle this problem under the limited… Show more

“…Work [3], underscores the critical importance of maximizing throughput in emergency scenarios to ensure efficient communication flow. Finally, the authors in [6] explore the application of UAVs for delivering wireless services during post-disaster periods, with a key objective of maximizing the coverage of ground users by optimizing the three-dimensional flight trajectories throughout the UAV flight missions.…”

“…In [ 17 ], enhanced dynamic spectrum access was proposed empowered by MAB schemes for UAV networks in post-disaster scenario. This work was then extended in [ 18 ] to optimize the UAV 3D trajectory as well. Almost all work existing in literature regarding UAVs applications in post-disaster scenarios assumed that UAVs fly go-and-forth between the post-disaster zones and the ground fusion center in the nearest survival GBS.…”
