This study focuses on the intrahospital routing of phlebotomists at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). Phlebotomists are responsible for drawing specimens from patients based on doctors' orders. The results of the analysis of these specimens play an important role in determining patient treatment. However, the demand for phlebotomists is likely to outpace supply over the next few years. Therefore, it is important to improve the efficiency of phlebotomists. In this paper, we formulate the phlebotomist intrahospital routing problem as a team orienteering problem with stochastic rewards and service times. The rewards and service times are particularly interesting as they are the result of a queueing process. We present an a priori solution approach and derive a method for efficiently sampling the value of a solution, a value that cannot be determined analytically. Finally, we demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms the current practice at UIHC. KEYWORDShealthcare operations, heuristic, Markov decision process, phlebotomy, queueing, service routing INTRODUCTIONResearch shows that laboratory performance affects approximately 60%-70% of the most critical medical decisions related to admission, discharge, and the medication of inpatients [12]. Phlebotomists are a key part of these laboratory services. Phlebotomists primarily draw blood, urine, and other samples from patients and are in fact often the patients' only contact with medical laboratories. With an increasing demand for healthcare services, the demand for phlebotomists is expected to grow 25% between 2014 and 2024 [5]. With the demand for healthcare workers at an all-time high [21] and healthcare dominating the American Staffing Associations Skills Gap Index, a measure of the hardest to fill jobs [1], it seems unlikely that the demand for phlebotomists can be met. Thus, increasing the efficiency of phlebotomists will be crucial to avoid delays in the admissions, discharge, and medication of patients.With this need in mind, this study focuses on the intrahospital routing of phlebotomists. This study is specifically motivated by the Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). This problem falls into the emerging category of routing problems called service routing problems. In service routing problems, service providers are routed among various customer locations at which a service must be performed. In contrast to traditional routing problems, however, attributes of the particular provider performing the service and/or the attributes of the service to be provided lead to heterogeneous and often stochastic service times. In addition to the intrahospital routing problem studied in this paper, examples of service routing problems include home healthcare routing [32] and service technician routing [11]. This preliminary study emphasizes on Micro Small Medium Enterprise which had shown the highest survival rate in the midst of economic crisis in Indonesia. Many previous studies about MSME were conducted in the area of customer, service, service quality, or correlation between them and those has gained quite much interest for decades. However, research in laundry service is considered new especially from customer perspective. Therefore, this preliminary study is performed by considering the new concept and innovation in laundry service area. The present research aims to gain deeper information and understanding of customer's use intention of using online laundry service, by using one-to-one interview as the qualitative research method approach. The findings showed that customer's intention of using online laundry service was mainly derived from the effectiveness and efficiency of such service. It is easy to use and save time. By using online laundry service, they would not have to worry about their dirty laundry when they were occupied by other works and activities. Customers who used the online laundry service showed very positive feedbacks towards this business which among others the application of e-commerce in online laundry service. They did not mind about the service venue as long as the online laundry service provider maintains their high quality of service. This online laundry service by using online chat as a platform for ordering and communicating, make it easy to use for customers. This method can be applied to any offline laundries so they can increase their customers by such innovation. For further research can be conducted in term of customers satisfaction towards online laundry service they are using to improve the service quality of online laundry service provider.

Health-care costs are increasing rapidly in the developed countries. For many years, logistics has been identified as one of the major cost factors. Such escalating cost is a serious concern for most hospitals as providers of affordable health care but many time-sensitive logistics services are essential and indispensable. In this paper, we discuss various logistics issues that are cost concerns for most hospitals and address a particular hospitalinternal courier service logistics as an example. Applying optimization-based approaches on real-world data from a particular hospital in Portugal, we demonstrate how efficiency and effectiveness can be improved. Computational results show that solution approach based on optimization and process re-engineering can not only improve the performance measure by more than 50% but also reduce resources necessary to maintain the same level of service as before by 16.67%. We have developed and implemented a fully functional decisionsupport system that is now used daily at the Hospital of Braga in Portugal for not only handling the courier service function more efficiently but also for increased flexibility to manage urgent and high-priority service needs that could not be handled before.
