Optimization of the fermentation process of Cordyceps sobolifera Se-CEPS and its anti-tumor activity in vivo

Abstract: BackgroundCordyceps sobolifera (C. sobolifera) isolated from cicadae was used as the starting fungus to produce selenium-enriched C. sobolifera extracellular polysaccharide (Se-CEPS). An orthogonal experimental design based on a single-factor experiment was used to optimize the C. sobolifera fermentation conditions, including the potato juice, peptone, and KH2PO4 concentrations. Ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) analyses of CEPS and Se-CEPS were conducted, as well as an in vivo anti-tumor analysis.ResultsUnde… Show more

“…39 It is generally accepted that the primary As far as we know, the proliferation and activation of CD8+T lymphocytes directly kill tumour cells and have anti-tumour effect. 42 Indeed, successful delivery of CD8+ effector T cells across the tumour vessels is considered to be a key determinant of anti-tumour immunity. 43 Although CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) play an important role in tumour regression, CD4+ cells are necessary for CTLs to enter tumour tissue.…”

“…Ophiocordyceps sobolifera, is one of an entomopathogenic fungus which have been recently used in traditional Chinese medicine. It has produced a variety of bioactive compounds with anti-tumor activities [15], anti-aging and antifatigue effects [16], kidney-protective effects [17,18] and immunity-enhancing properties [19]. However, not much was known on the effect of O. sobolifera on the medically important fungal pathogen C. albicans.…”

“…The Compendium of Materia Medica notes that C. cicadae is a valuable traditional Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of epilepsy in children, palpitations, eye diseases, and nighttime crying. Several studies have also reported that C. cicadae has a wide variety of pharmaceutical properties and applications, including lipid metabolism regulation, immune regulation, renal function and vision improvements, as well as antitumor, anti-fatigue, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetes properties [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. In addition, the varous constitents of C. cicadae include polysaccharides, nucleosides, cordycepins, N6-(2-hydroxyethyl) adenosine (HEA), cyclic heptapeptide, mannitol, and ergosterol [16].…”
