Optimization of the AODV-Based Packet Forwarding Mechanism for BLE Mesh Networks

Abstract: The standard Bluetooth Low-Energy mesh networks assume the use of flooding for multihop communications. The flooding approach causes network overheads and delays due to continuous message broadcasting in the absence of a routing mechanism. Among the routing protocols, AODV is one of the most popular and robust routing protocol for wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, we optimized the AODV protocol for Bluetooth Low-Energy communication to make it more efficient in comparison to the mesh protocol. With the … Show more

“…In previous references, in the scenario where one command controls a device, PDR was defined as the ratio of the number of data packets received by the destination node (RX Packet to DST) to the number of data packets sent out by the source node (TX Packet from SRC), usually expressed as a percentage. 2) RTT [14,15] as the abbreviation for "Round Trip Time": it represents the time it takes for a message to be transmitted in a mesh network. In previous references, in the scenario where one command controls a device, RTT was defined as the total time it takes for a message to be sent from the source node to the destination node and then returned back to the source node.…”

“… Ghori et al (2021) , presented the Optimized AODV (O-AODV) protocol, which beats BLE mesh and conventional AODV protocols on the scale of overhead, end-to-end delay, and average per-hope one-way delay. It also enjoys a 13% better packet delivery ratio compared to the AODV protocol, but it is only 9% less than that of the BLE (flooding) protocol.…”

“…At this section the result of the implemented model was compared along with the other existing models for proving that the proposed model having the high rate parameters. Some of the existing models used for comparing the proposed model was Robust and trusted scheme (RTS) [Haseeb et al (2020)], Hybrid Mesh network (HMN) [Celebi (2022)], Transmission control Protocol (TCP) [Celebi (2022)], User Datagram Protocol (UDP) [Celebi (2022)], Wireless mesh Network (WMN) [Celebi (2022)], Spatial time division Multiple (STDM), Adhoc on demand Distance Vector (AODV) [Ghori et al (2021)], optimized Adhoc on demand Distance Vector (OAODV) [Ghori et al (2021)] and Mesh Analysis (MA) [Ghori et al (2021)]. Moreover, at comparison the proposed model gives the better results than the existing models.…”
