Optimization of Production Processes Using the Yamazumi Method

Abstract: Manufacturing companies are now placing great emphasis on competitiveness and looking for ways to utilise their resources more efficiently. This paper presents optimum efficiency improvement of the automotive transmission assembly production line by using line balancing. 3 assembly stations were selected to optimize where waste management requirements are not met for achieving the production capacity. Several measures were proposed on the assembly lines concerned to reduce operations by using eliminating unnec… Show more

“…The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (referred to as TOPSIS method) is based on the selection of the variant closest to the ideal variant and furthest from the basal variant. It requires cardinal information about the criteria preferences that is given by the Saaty method [45].…”

“…Yamazumi chart is used as a supporting tool to precede workload distribution among workstations towards line balancing. Yamazumi chart is an individual task time bar chart that shows the total cycle time for each operation when performing their process in the production flow [5]. The aim of applying Yamazumi chart line balancing is to balance the overall cycle time for all workstations.…”

“…This is the visual representation of workload on each workstation and used as a tool to precede rearrangement of tasks within workstations for line balancing [12]. Yamazumi chart is a man-machine bar chart that shows the total cycle time for each operation when performing operation processes in the production flow [13]. The actual standard cycle time is calculated first to formulate the Yamazumi chart.…”

“…Modification of distribution channels is essential if they do not function as planned, or if the way customers shop changed, the market expanded, new competition appeared, new ways of distribution are created or product moves to the next stage of its life cycle [29]. No distribution channel remains competitive throughout the product's whole life cycle [21].…”
