Optimization of piezoelectric patch positioning for passive sound radiation control of plates

Abstract: The purpose of this article is the optimization of piezoelectric patch positioning for reducing the radiated sound power of thin plates. To this end, an aluminium plate equipped with a set of piezoelectric patches connected to a passive circuit is considered. The difficulties in designing a smart structure are not only related to the conception of the electric circuit used as controller, but also to the choice of how the circuit itself is coupled with the structure. The selection of the number of transducers … Show more

“…(5) and (6) is very similar to that of a coupled electromechanical system, in particular to a Piezo Electro Mechanical beams and plates [50][51][52][53][54][55][56]. However, some differences arise, as the coupling is nonlimited to the second space derivative term, but an inertial coupling is also present, as it is visible in the right part of Eqs.…”

“…In this sense, in case of the settlement of the plinth of one column, its effects, i.e., an increase of the displacements, would be limited to the neighboring components of the column. A similar concept has been investigated in the design of piezoelectromechanical structures in [27,58,67,73,76], where the energy transfer from mechanical to electrical parts and vice versa is analyzed and modeled [9,42,57,74].…”
