Optimization Of Extraction Parameters For Folic Acid And Antioxidant Compounds From An Edible Plant (Polygonum Cognatum Meissn) Using Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE) System

Abstract: Madimak (Polygonum cognatum Meissn.) plant is a wild edible plant with a cosmopolitan distribution and also traditionally consumed as food in anatolia. This study aims to optimize the extraction parameters in the pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) system and to search some beneficial properties of this plant. After the optimal extraction conditions was determined, the effect of PLE conditions on antioxidant properties was studied by using plant extracts in terms of total phenolic contents, free radical scave… Show more

“…P. cognatum samples collected from the Sivas region in Turkey were recorded to be rich in vitamin E and Zn, Fe, and Mn elements (Ulusoy et al, 2017). Similarly, folic acid levels of P. cognatum samples of the Sivas district were found to be 176, 25, 41, 28, and 10 times higher than those of fruit juices, spinach, broccoli, green beans, brussels sprouts, and soya bean tissue, respectively (Ulusoy et al, 2018). Bioactive components of "madimak" consumed in high amounts and is very famous locally still need to be clarified because of attracting the attention of consumers as potential functional food.…”

“…Pteroic acid consists of a pteridine ring joined by a para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) structure, while a variable number of glutamyl structures are linked by peptide bonds [4]. It is slightly soluble in water and completely soluble in alcohol [5,6]. Vitamin B12 is the most complex of the water-soluble vitamin.…”

“…12 The data show that SPE has some clear advantages over liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) such as higher recovery, better clean-up, lower solvent consumption and broader extraction applicability for a wide range of analytes with different polarities. 13,14 Despite all the above-mentioned advantages, SPE suffers from a few limitations including a lengthy and tedious procedure as well as a large amount of solvent residue after extraction. 15 Syringe filter-packed solid-phase extraction (SF-SPE) is a new type of SPE which relies on placing a small amount of a sorbent, typically a few mg, in a syringe filter.…”
