Optimization of Disk Sorptive Extraction Based on Monolithic Material for the Determination of Aroma Compounds from Lantana camara L. by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Present study describes the optimization of disk type sorptive extraction using monolithic material (Mono Trap) for the analysis of volatile aroma compounds from Lantana camara L. in combination with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Monolithic material sorptive extraction (MMSE) is a new sampling technique using a monolithic hybrid adsorptive disk (O.D. 10 mm, 1 mm thickness) made of high purity silica and activated carbon having a large surface area chemically bonded with octadecyl silane (ODS). … Show more

“…Monotrap is a disposable sorptive media based on the large surface area of silica monolith. It has been applied in biological research and can be preserved in the sample bottle prior to measurement (Jang et al, 2011 ; Ma et al, 2013 ). Nonetheless, despite the large surface for capturing VOCs, monotrap has been used solely for static sampling.…”

“…It has a high surface area chemically modified with octadecyl silane, was launched as a new sampling pretreatment technique (Wu, Tao, & Gu, ). It is superior to SPME fiber, because of its larger aperture and specific surface area (Jang, Son, & Lee, ), therefore, it is more sensitive and has higher adsorption ratio than HS‐SPME. Thus the headspace monolithic material sorptive extraction (HS‐MMSE) method is an alternative sampling technique for SPME (Gilart, Cormack, Marcé, Borrull, & Fontanals, ).…”

“…A design similar to the SBSE/Twister W concept led to the development of Monolithic Material Sorptive Extraction (MonoTrap TM ) based on Merck DGaA monolithic technology (GL Science Inc., Tokyo, Japan). The monolithic-coated bars can be used for sampling liquids and volatile compounds by HS, prior to solvent desorption and GC analysis [28,29].…”
