Optimization of Binary Mixtures of Biodiesel and Fossil Diesel for Clean Energy Combustion

Abstract: There is an urgent interest initiated to develop clean energy resources with the aim of reducing exposure to environmental pollutants and explore model fuels that can hasten the achievement of clean energy combustion. This work investigates various ratios of biodiesel and commercial diesel in order to propose model binary fuels for clean energy combustion. Accordingly, diesel blends of ratios 1:1, 3:2 and 2:3 were each pyrolyzed at a contact time of 5 s in a quartz reactor at 1 atmosphere pressure. A model tem… Show more

“…FTIR spectroscopy is remarkably one of the most important and versatile analytical techniques available for the analysis of surface functionalities of PM. Absorption spectra were collected according to the procedure developed in the literature 21,22 . Attenuated total reflection FTIR spectra were taken following the procedure of Mili et al 21 The sample size used for FTIR was ≈5 mg.…”

“…Conventionally, EPR measures energy absorption attributed to the transition of subatomic particles such as electrons between different energy levels caused by the interaction of free radicals with the magnetic field component of the microwave radiation in presence of an external magnetic field applied to the sample [9,10]. EPR has been used broadly to study free radicals in various condensed phases such as biochar [11,8].…”
