Optimization of a two-phase transverse flux switched reluctance motor with an outer rotor

Abstract: This paper presents optimization results for a two-phase, modular transverse flux switched reluctance motor (TFSRM) with an outer rotor. In particular, the main disadvantage of the considered motor structure, that is the zero starting torque in some rotor positions, is eliminated by construction optimization. A numerical model of the motor developed in the Flux3D program is coupled with a Matlab-based evolutionary algorithm for optimization of construction parameters of the magnetic circuit. The elaborated alg… Show more

“…The concept presented in [4] was also important for the advancement of this design. As a result of further intensive research, numerous variations of transverse field machines (TFMs) were created, compiled, and described, for example, in [5][6][7]. In summarising their review, it can be stated that the fundamental characteristic enabling the generation of a greater torque than in other machines of similar dimensions is the dimensional independence of the electrical and magnetic circuits in TFMs, whereas in machines with a radial T. Lerch Arch.…”

“…In heuristic optimization algorithms, the optimal solution is sought within a group of individuals called, depending on the algorithm: a generation (genetic algorithms), a swarm [9,10] (swarm methods), a colony (bat algorithm), and even a pack [11,12] (grey wolf method). If considering successive iterations, the optimization procedure tries to find the optimal solution by moving a group of "agents" around the permissible area.…”

“…In the last few years, many new methods have been developed, including the bat method, the grey wolf method, the salp swarm algorithm [9], the whale optimization algorithm [15] and the sparrow optimization algorithm [16]. These methods use various mathematical models and may have different performance properties [17].…”

“…Many papers devoted to optimization of the SRM are based on FEM models with auxiliary lumped parameter parts defined by means of analytical formulae like in [2,4], [5]. In optimization, evolutionary algorithms [6][7][8] are used more often than other methods, i.e. gradient optimization routines [9].…”
