“…In the 42mðx 1 k 2Þ point group (Fig. 1) belong a plethora of crystals, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP), ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP) and others (Landolt-Bö rnstein, 1996), that are exploitable in several technologies, including modulators (Chen et al, 2007;Yu et al, 2005), switches (Tanushi & Yokoyama, 2006;Tsao & Hung, 2004), second harmonic generation (Awwal et al, 2006;Dubietis, 2000;Mironov et al, 2009;Mitra et al, 2006), lasers (De Yoreo et al, 2002;Yang et al, 2002;Raghuramaiah et al, 2003), tunable filters (Prasad, 2007;Weber et al, 2010;Voloshinov et al, 2006) and sensing (Silva et al, 2008). These crystals are noncentrosymmetric and non-enantiomorphous, possessing natural birefringence (n 01 , n 03 ) and optical activity (g 11 ) in directions different from the symmetry planes and along the optical axis.…”
