“…Let us also note that the distance-based heuristics defined in Algorithm 1 denotes improved performance when compared with the preliminary version defined in Poltronieri et al 24 To this end, Figure 7a,b provides a graphical comparison of the two algorithms. These results show that the newer version of the distance-based heuristics tends to be more adherent as possible to the simplified user-specific VoI model defined in (13). In particular, it is worth noting how the improved algorithm defined in Algorithm 1 shows a VoI increasing pattern during the generations.…”

“…Let us note that, unlike the simplified user-specific VoI model, the execution of the distance-based heuristic does not return a VoI value. To make the two approaches comparable, we need to evaluate the service component allocations produced by the optimization of the distance-based heuristic, use them as input for Phileas simulation runs, and calculating the generated total VoI using the simplified user-specific VoI model of Equation (13). The results are depicted in Figure 5, which allows us to compare the results achieved through the optimization of both models and to verify if the distance-based heuristic represents a good approximation of simplified user-specific VoI model.…”
