Optimization Issues of a Hammer Mill Working Process Using Statistical Modelling

Abstract: Our paper presents the hammer mill working process optimization problem destined for milling energetic biomass (MiscanthusGiganteus and Salix Viminalis). For the study, functional and constructive parameters of the hammer mill were taken into consideration in order to reduce the specific energy consumption. The energy consumption dependency on the mill rotor spinning frequency and on the sieve orifices in use, as well as on the material feeding flow, in correlation with the vegetal biomass milling degree was t… Show more

“…The above relations are in line with the results for other mills presented in studies [16,56,62,[72][73][74][75][76]. The relation between power consumption and total increase in disc angular speed is a result of a simple dependence that power is the product of torque and angular speed multiplication, which for idle run of the multi-disc mill (without batch) is a linear dependance and is more than half of the total power requirement, even for a batch loaded mill as was presented in [77].…”

“…A total of 56 datasets were collected and randomly divided into training (40 datasets: 70%), validation (8 datasets: 15%), and training (8 datasets: 15%) datasets. For the milling study, 56 experimental datasets are considered more than enough [17][18][19]. The used datasets split% is common in the literature [7,20,21].…”

“…Tekgular [7] analysed in his paper hammer shredders during the shredding of grain products, but in particular new screen solutions comparing round holes with longitudinal holes were analysed. Similar studies were conducted by Paraschiv [8], where the performance and design parameters of hammer shredders for different hammer design solutions and screen holes were analysed. From the analysis of the literature, the topic of the energy demand of the shredding process of grain material is noted worldwide, and hammer shredders are the most common design in the implementation of the industrial grain milling process.…”
