Optimising a Biogas and Photovoltaic Hybrid System for Sustainable Power Supply in Rural Areas

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for evaluating the optimal configuration of a hybrid system (biomass power plant and photovoltaic plant), which is connected to the electrical grid, to achieve minimum energy costs. The study is applied to a small rural municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain, as an energy community. The approach takes into account the daily energy demand variation and price curves for energy that are either imported or exported to the grid. The optimal configuration is determined by the hig… Show more

“…In relation to an analysis site such as Marianza, 3700 KWh/m 2 year is available as identified in [82]. As such, important data provide evidence of the solar potential that the country has, which contributes to cover its energy demand in conjunction with other sources of renewable energy that are also variable but which together would be of great contribution to the site under study [83].…”

“…Solar and wind energy are intermittent, meaning that their availability depends on weather conditions, and they are not always available when needed. factors require large-scale storage systems, so they need to be combined [5]. In other words, to achieve real self-consumption using only renewable energies, it is necessary to design and manage an energy matrix that can cover all demand.…”

“…Combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) gain an advantage over higher efficiency of energy and lower cost management and impacts on the environment. Many other models have the same capability but are very different from CCHP as CCHP produced more than 60% of the total renewable energy [52]. This model also uses of formulation module and different algorithms to meet the requirements and optimize the solar water heater to meet the requirements.…”
