Optimisation of spot-welding process using Taguchi based Cuckoo search algorithm

Abstract: The present work evaluated the efficiency of a Taguchi-based Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm for optimizing the spot-welding process. The L9 orthogonal array of the Taguchi method is used for the conduction of required experiments. During the study input parameters are welding current (kA), hold time (cycles), welding time (cycles), and electrode pressure (kPa) while Peak Load, kN has been considered as an output parameter. The required objective function is developed through regression model formulation. Initial… Show more

“…For large-scale problems, traditional algorithms, such as the dynamic programming method and branch and bound method, can not achieve the speed and accuracy of small-scale scheduling optimization problems. This leads researchers to study evolutionary algorithms (EA), like penguin search optimization algorithm (PeSOA) [ 20 ], GA [ 21 ], cuckoo search (CS) [ 22 ] and particle swarm optimization (PSO) [ 23 ]. The current widely used evolutionary algorithms (EA) [ 24 ] are shown in Table 1 , which comprehensively considers the global search ability, Rate of convergence, simplicity and ease of implementation, applicability of complex constraint.…”

“…Currently, various efficient algorithms have been developed that could be of interest in the context of underground cables. The authors of [27] evaluated the efficiency of a Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm based on Taguchi for optimizing the spot welding process. On the other hand, the authors of [28] introduced the Rat Swarm Optimizer (RSO), a new bioinspired metaheuristic based on natural rat hunting and attacking behaviors.…”

“…Additionally, ACO R may consume more memory compared to other algorithms, which can be a problem in large-scale problems ( Socha, 2009 ; Socha & Dorigo, 2008 ). There are many studies on optimization studies in the literature, the studies presented here are just a few of them in recent years ( Chaki & Bose, 2022 ; Dhiman et al, 2021 ; Mzili, Mzili & Riffi, 2023 ; Mzili et al, 2022 ).…”
