Optimisation of green synthesis of MnO nanoparticles via utilising response surface methodology

Abstract: This study concerns the optimisation of green synthesis of manganese oxide nanoparticles (MnO NPs) with (L.) extract via response surface methodology (RSM). Central composite design was used to evaluate the effect of pH, time, and the extract to the metal ratio on the synthesised nanoparticles (NPs). Nine runs were designed to investigate the effect of each parameter while NPs were synthesised under different conditions. Considering the-values (-value < 0.05), it is indicated that the extract to the metal rati… Show more

“…It was confirmed that MnO 2 nanoparticles were irregularly spherical shaped with the size ranging from 36.6 to 112.0 nm while magnesium oxide nanoparticles had a size ranging from 8.87 to 15.2 nm (Figure 4). Most syntheses of MnO 2 using plant extracts have been reported to be spherical [38,39] which is consistent with our study. On the other hand, diverse shapes such as spherical and hexagonal were reported for the plant-mediated synthesis of MgO [10,40].…”

“…The peak at 502 cm −1 in S 1 , S 2 , and S 3 is attributed to the characteristic absorption peak of the Zn-O bond and also confirms the presence of ZnO in all samples [20]. The peaks at 622 cm −1 and around 1010-1122 cm −1 in S 2 and S 3 illustrate the stretching of O-Mn-O lattice vibrations [1,38]. The wideband at 3000-3600 cm −1 assigned to the -OH band [39,40].…”

“…Introduction: Many attractive properties of zinc oxide (ZnO), such as the good piezoelectric characteristic, large excited binding energy (60 meV at room temperature), direct wide band gap (3.37 eV), chemical stability and biocompatibility could be proposed for many applications. It has been extensively studied for a diversity of applications in solid-state solar window layers, optical coatings, electro-optic modulators, field effect transistors, optical sensors, photoconductors, photocatalysts, electroluminescent materials, phosphors and other light emitting materials [1][2][3].…”

“…Nanoparticles can be formulated using several physical and chemical techniques 20. However, the green synthesis of nanoparticles using plants is gaining interest to avoid using toxic materials 21. The synthesis of biogenic gold nanoparticles (Hypoxis-AuNPs) from Hypoxis hemerocallidea extracts was previously described 22.…”
