Optimisation design for series–series dynamic WPT system maintaining stable transfer power

Abstract: In amount of practical applications of wireless power transfer (WPT), charging electric vehicles (EVs) has attracted much attention. Dynamic WPT is considered as a solution to the problem of battery bottleneck and the difficulty of convenient charging encountered in the development of EV. However, the transfer power can hardly be maintained stable under large coil misalignment in movement. What is more, the transfer efficiency will decline correspondingly. A method of optimisation design is presented from the … Show more

“…As shown in Figure 1, the basic principle of WPT is to achieve the non-contact transmission of power through the mutual inductance between two coils. The transmission characteristics are affected not only by the transmitter parameters but also by the receiver structures [22][23][24]. In order to simplify the analysis process, the circuit equivalent of WPT is shown in Figure 2.…”

“…When integrating these modules together, it is necessary to decrease the power reflection as much as possible caused by impedance mismatch between the modules for the maximal system efficiency. 8 A straightforward approach for the problem is to use impedance matching. In Reference 9, an additional repeater coil was designed to improve the impedance matching between the WPT coils and the circuits, thus resulting in the increase of the whole system volume.…”

“…The most important issues of a WPT system are the power transfer efficiency and the power transfer distance. Many attempts such as coil structure optimization [13][14][15], maximum frequency tracking [16][17][18][19], and the multi-coils system [20][21][22] have been developed in order to improve system performance. However, before large-scale practical application, safety concerns also need to be clarified and addressed [23][24][25][26].…”
