Optimal treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder

Abstract: Established treatments for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) include cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medication. Combined treatment may outperform monotherapy, but few studies have investigated this. A total of 49 community-based adults with OCD were randomly assigned to CBT, SSRI, or SSRI+CBT. Sertraline (50–200 mg/day) was given as the SSRI for 52 weeks. A 16-h-manualized individual CBT was delivered over 8 weeks with four follow-up sessions. Assessors we… Show more

“…Quite recently Bautista‐Renedo et al reported a detailed study about the interactions observed between β CD, and 2‐hydroxypropyl‐ β CD (HP‐ β CD), with sertraline (SRT) [23], which is an inhibitor of serotonin to relieve some depressant symptoms [24–27]. In this study, the CMD was coupled with some quantum chemistry methods to reveal the interactions that command on some host‐guest adducts.…”

“…Sertraline (cis-(1S,4S)-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-methyl-1,2,3,4tetrahydronaphthalen-1-amine) is an important inhibitor of serotonin, with remarkable antidepressant characteristics. 1,2 The relevance of this compound is evidenced by the sales observed in the pharmaceutical industry for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder or social anxiety disorder. 3,4 The chemical structure of sertraline (SRT), depicted in Fig.…”
