Optimal sizing of grid-tied hybrid renewable energy systems considering inverter to PV ratio—A case study

Abstract: In this paper, a techno-economic optimum configuration process is assessed for hybrid power systems in terms of different generation capacities. It will provide a basis for the configuration of a practical microgrid. Initially, the actual power demand in a particular university area, namely, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in Bangladesh, is measured, and then, the process of designing the optimized model is demonstrated with an initial choice of various parameters and constraints. Its inputs … Show more

“…It is necessary to analyze the environmental benefits to obtain the optimum system configuration [42]. The proposed system considers different GHGs such as CO 2 , CO, SO 2 , and NO X to estimate environmental feasibility [43]. The average grid emission factor is considered to be 0.67 tons of CO 2 per MWh, and the lifetime is 25 years.…”

“…A lot of research activities and projects are designed and planned to utilise the available renewable energy sources. Numerous hybrid power plants, like solar‐wind, solar‐wind‐diesel, solar‐wind‐biomass‐diesel, and solar‐wind‐hydro, are designed, and the feasibility of the system is analysed [67–87]. Based on the geographic and spatial data, twenty‐one feasibility study data are plotted in Figure 5.…”

“…The COE and NPC of the system vary from one to another, depending on the system size. The COE for the most optimised system of [6782, 84, 86, 87] are plotted in Figure 8. It is seen that the COE is lower ($0.128) in Dinajpur [70] and higher ($0.75) in Comilla [76].…”

“…Moreover, Nurunnabi et al investigated a techno‐economic analysis for grid‐tied combination of PV and wind hybrid MW‐scale power plants. Optimisation results were obtained by HOMER simulator, and these results were carried out on both cost and environmental basis, with taking into consideration the annual variation of load demand and energy prices to make the system more realistic [15]. However, only a grid‐connected system was investigated with no comparison with the off‐grid case.…”
