Optimal Site Selection for a Solar Power Plant in the Mekong Delta Region of Vietnam

Abstract: Following the recent development trend in the struggle for cleaning the earth’s environment, solar is the one of most promising area that can partially be used as a replaceable energy from non-renewable fuel sources. As such, it plays a significant role in protecting the environment from global warming. As solar power does not emit harmful gases into the atmosphere, its production, distribution, setup, and operation are vital should the production remain constant. Even solar energy waste emissions are small; w… Show more

“…Our proposed approach solves a facility location program, which is a problem that minimizes the cost of satisfying a set of demands with respect to some set of constraints ( Facility Location, 2009 ). Facility location problem has a variety of applications including determining optimal locations of solar power plant sites ( Wang et al, 2020 ), hydrogen production sites ( Yee et al, 2020 ), tsunami sensors ( Ferrolino, Lope & Mendoza, 2020 ; Ferrolino et al, 2020 ), infrastructure maintenance depot ( Kim & Kim, 2021 ), tower sites for early-warning wildfire detection systems ( Heyns et al, 2020 ), and high-speed train stations ( Chanta & Sangsawang, 2020 ), among others. Facility location has also been used in several COVID-19-related studies.…”

“…Nearly half of the renewable energy used in 2017 was provided by modern bioenergy, which accounted for an estimated 12.4% of total final energy consumption. The remaining 81.6% of the energy supplied in Vietnam comes from coal, oil and natural gas, mostly imported into the country [3]. Vietnam is a young and fast-growing economy in Southeast Asia that has made efforts to tackle climate change issues internationally.…”
