Optimal septum alignment of the Figulla® Flex occluder to the atrial septum in patients with secundum atrial septal defects

Abstract: The design of this occluder system results in an ideal septum alignment which increases its feasibility as well as patient safety during implantation.

“…The authors conclude that successful implantation is also feasible in patients with no/insufficient rim (n = 48, 40%) and in the smallest children <15 kg (n = 21, 17%) [54]. A comparative study between both Figulla Flex Occluders and the Amplatzer showed similar results in procedural success and effective occlusion rate [55].…”

“…The spectrum of currently accessible devices will probably last with no more than minimal adaptations since their formula is proven to effectively close the majority of ASDs. There is, however, increasing confidence in the feasibility and safety of percutaneous closure in more complex defect types such as defects with small rims (<5 mm) or septal aneurysms, and multiple or large (>34 mm) defects [54]. Multi-fenestrated septal defects can also be closed using either multiple devices or single fenestrated occluders such as the FU: Follow-up; 24 h: First post-procedural day; 1w: 1-week follow-up; 6mo: 6-month follow-up; 3mo: 3-month follow-up; 1mo: 1-month follow-up; 1y: one-year follow-up; 2y: two-year follow-up; ASO: Amplatzer Septal Occluder; №: number; PVA: polyvinyl alcohol.…”

“…The technical details are described elsewhere in detail . One of the main devices differences of the OFSOs as compared to the ASOs is the lack of the left‐sided hub that results in a softer left‐sided disc despite comparable wire thickness.…”

“…Recently, percutaneous device closure has been the preferred choice in the treatment of the secundum ASDs with various devices in patients with sufficient rims [1,2,5,10,11]. Despite the significant refinement in device technology, there is no ideal device that closes all of the secundum ASDs without significant complications either in early and immediate term or in the long term.…”
