In the conditions of climate change and the scarcity of natural resources, the future of energy is increasingly associated with the development of the so-called green energy. Its development is reflected in the European Commission strategic vision to transition to a climate-neutral economy. This is a challenge that the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, members of the EU, are also trying to meet. In recent years, these countries have seen an increase in the share of renewable energy and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GGE). On the other hand, basing the energy sector on unstable energy sources (photovoltaics and wind technologies) may imply new challenges on the way to sustainable development. These are old problems in a new version (ecology, diversification of supplies) and new ones related to the features of renewable energy sources (RES; instability, dispersion). The aim of the article was to classify, on the basis of taxonomic methods, the CEE countries from the point of view of green energy transformation (original indicator) and to predict new threats to Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria, the countries representing different groups according to the applied classification. The issues presented are part of a holistic view of RES and can be useful in energy policy.

Evaluating the probability of failure of a product during the warranty is key to estimating the cost of its entire life cycle. Photovoltaic (PV) modules are the most reliable elements of a PV system, and their high reliability translates into long warranty periods (typically 25 to 30 years). The number of PV modules that fail during warranty and when they failed is an important issue to estimate the life cycle cost of PV modules. In this paper, we propose a coupled degradation‐warranty model for PV modules. The proposed model is aimed to assess the probability of failure over time covered by warranty based on degradation data. This allows us to estimate the time of PV modules failure covered by the warranty. Although the warranty model has been applied to some forms of degradation and sales functions, our method can be applied to any real application. This allows the key parameters of the warranty to be obtained in a simple way. The required degradation parameters to fulfill warranty depend on the allowable ratio of warranted elements. However, the main conclusion of the influence of degradation rates on warranty is that it is not possible to fulfill 25 years of warranty if degradation rates are larger than 0.8%/year. The required degradation rates values, for 25 years of warranty, will be lower than 0.5%/year if the allowed warranted element is in the range of 1%.

Techno-Economic-Environmental Impact of Derating Factors on the Optimally Tilted PV System

Solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) system encounters a signiﬁcant amount of losses due to different derating factors of PV modules throughout its lifespan. Thus, proper investigation is much needed to grasp the technical and economic impact of derating factors on the solar PV system, specially the one which is connected to the utility grid. This study performs a comprehensive discussion on various PV loss parameters followed by a techno-economic-environmental assessment of combined derating factor on an grid-connected and optimally tilted PV system located at Hatiya, Bangladesh using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources) software. Some criteria linked with derating factor such as PV degradation and ambient temperature are further explored to analyze their impact on the aforementioned power system. Simulation results show that the system provides the best technical performance concerning annual PV production, power trade with grid, and renewable fraction with less emissions at a higher value of derating factor since it represents the lower impact of loss parameters. Similarly, ﬁnancial performance in terms of net present cost (NPC), levelized cost of energy (LCOE), and grid power exchange cost is found lower when derating factor value is higher.
