Optimal Power Distribution Planning Using Improved Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract: In planning of radial power distribution system, optimal feeder routing and optimal branch conductor selection plays an important role. Economical distribution system requires effective planning method, which involves optimization procedure to connect the given load to the substations. In the paper, a generalized algorithm is developed for obtaining the optimal feeder path and the optimal location of substation on minimum loss criterion. Forward/Backward sweep load flow technique is applied to calculate the en… Show more

“…In some cases, due to additional constraints, none of the relaxations/approximations mentioned hitherto suffices. In those cases, metaheuristic algorithms like GA [76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86], PSO [87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94], or other non-linear solvers like IPOPT can be used to solve the problem. The level of detail and tightness of the model usually follows an opposite pattern of ease of solving.…”
