Optimal energy efficient joint power allocation for two‐hop single‐antenna relaying systems

Abstract: In this paper, the joint source-relay power allocation issue in green dual-hop single-antenna relaying systems is investigated from the energy efficiency point of view. By considering a practical power consumption model, the optimal transmit power of the source and that of the relay are derived in the form of analytical expressions based on the maximisation of energy efficiency with a guarantee of the required spectral efficiency. The novelty of the work lies in that the highly complicated optimisation problem… Show more

“…The first term of (13) represents the throughput of primary system when the original transmission from the PU to the BS is successful. The second term of (13) represents the throughput of primary system when the original primary data are erroneously received by both the BS and the AP, and the retransmission is performed by the PU. The pre-factor 1=2 is applied, as the same data packet is transmitted twice.…”

“…The pre-factor 1=2 is applied, as the same data packet is transmitted twice. The third term of (13) represents the throughput of primary system when the original primary data are erroneously received by the BS but correctly received by the AP, so the retransmission is performed by the AP. When event A occurs, the PU should retransmit its primary data by harvesting energy first.…”

“…Increasing EE has become an important and urgent task. In relay communications, recent research efforts have focused on EE in half‐duplex relay systems . In , the main algorithms used to optimise EE are based on the Dinkelbach's method , which has been commonly used to solve fractional programming problems.…”
