Optimal Duration for Prophylaxis of Deep Vein Thrombosis: The New Focus?

Abstract: It is usual to stop prophylaxis of most surgical patients at hospital discharge. However, there is increasing evidence that some patients are at risk of thromboembolism after treatment is stopped. Some evidence and several proposals from the literature are presented, but to date, the situation remains unclear.
