Resilient design of robust multi-objectives PID controllers via the D-decomposition method is presented in this paper for automatic voltage regulators (AVRs). The stabilizing interval of derivative gain (k d ) is analytically calculated by the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. The k p − k i domain, for a fixed value of k d , is decomposed in root invariant regions by mapping the stability boundary from the complex plane. Two regions, described by fixed damping isoclines, are assigned for pole-clustering in the open-left half plane (LHP). Other than regional pole clustering, gain and phase margins, as frequency domain specifications, are considered. Both robust stability and robust performance are considered by stabilizing a set of principle segment plants simultaneously. Optimal pole-placer PID controllers are computed analytically. If a robust control basin does exist for a specific compromise of control objective, the criterion of the maximum inscribed circle is considered to compute the maximum radius of controller resiliency. The merit of the proposed design is the simultaneous consideration of three control concerns, namely performance optimality, stability robustness and controller resiliency. Computation, validation, and simulation results are presented to show the simplicity and efficacy of the suggested method in tracing control basins (CBs) of all admissible PID controllers.

Robust frequency control in a standalone microgrid: An adaptive fuzzy based fractional order cascade PD‐PI approach

In addition to low system inertia and stochastic nature of the load, the intermittent nature of renewable output power causes hefty frequency deviations in a standalone microgrid (SMG) that lead to weakening and blackout of SMG. Hence in the SMG, the frequency control issue is always a challenging issue for the operators. To enhance the frequency stability of MG, the control action needs to be more efficient and robust. To answer the above challenge, in this article, a novel adaptive fuzzy based fractional order cascade PD‐PI controller is proposed for frequency control of SMG. The proposed controller inherits the merits of both fuzzy and fractional order cascade PD‐PI controllers by ignoring the individual limitations. The parameters of the proposed controller are tuned using a recently developed future search algorithm. The proposed controller is tested against various load and renewable disturbances on a real‐time MG test system. The simulation outcomes reveal that the proposed controller and algorithm enhance the dynamic response of SMG significantly compared to various powerful controllers in the literature. Moreover, the proposed controller performance is more robust to the uncertainties in the MG and energy storage system as compared to the various robust controllers in the literature.

To select reasonable PID controller parameters and improve control performances of hydraulic systems, a variable weight beetle antenna search algorithm is proposed for PID tuning in the hydraulic system. The beetle antennae search algorithm is inspired by the beetle preying habit depending on symmetry antennae on the head. The proposed algorithm added the exponential equation mechanism strategy in the basic algorithm to further improve the searching performance, the convergence speed, and the optimization accuracy and obtain new iteration and an updating method in the global searching and local searching stages. In the PID tuning process, advantages of less parameters and fast iteration are realized in the PID tuning process. In this paper, different dimension functions were tested, and results calculated by the proposed algorithm were compared with other famous algorithms, and the numerical analysis was carried out, including the iteration, the box-plot, and the searching path, which comprehensively showed the searching balance in the proposed algorithm. Finally, the reasonable PID controller parameters are found by using the proposed method, and the tuned PID controller is introduced into the hydraulic system for control, and the time-domain response characteristics and frequency response characteristics are given. The results show that the proposed PID tuning method has good PID parameter tuning ability, and the tuned PID has a good control ability, which makes the hydraulic system achieve the desired effect.
