Optimal design of multiple annular tuned liquid dampers for seismic reduction of 1,100-kV composite bushing

Abstract: Summary It is of great significance to perform seismic mitigation for the 1,100‐kV composite bushings because they are vulnerable to damage during earthquakes. In this paper, a new design process of multiple tuned liquid dampers (MTLDs), utilizing the displacement transfer function curves and the equivalent mechanical model of annular tuned liquid damper (ATLD), is proposed for seismic reduction of the 1,100‐kV composite bushing. At first, the equivalent mechanical model of ATLD is derived based on the linear … Show more

“…These variations and difference show the very low level of reliability in the FCs presented in almost all of the previous studies. This low level of reliability has encouraged the designers of such systems in recent years to focus more on more reliable techniques such as the use of dampers for seismic response reduction (Yue et al 2019). A few reasons can be mentioned for the aforementioned low level of reliability of FCs presented in previous works of different scholars.…”

“…Recently, passive control devices have been proposed to reduce the vibration of composite bushings 22,23 . Viscous dampers between adjacent buildings also have been proposed to serve as displacement control devices, 24 with closed‐form equations established to determine their optimal design 25 . Viscous/viscoelastic dampers can be applied on two adjacent buildings of different heights, 26 as well.…”
