Optimal Design of Double-Walled Corrugated Board Packaging

Abstract: Designing corrugated board packaging is a real challenge, especially when the packaging material comes from multiple recycling. Recycling itself is a pro-ecological and absolutely necessary process, but the mechanical properties of materials that are processed many times deteriorate with the number of cycles. Manufacturers are trying to use unprecedented design methods to preserve the load-bearing capacity of packaging, even when the material itself is of deteriorating quality. An additional obstacle in the pr… Show more

“…), therefore, the correct modeling of packaging is taking on increasing importance. The optimal design of the corrugated cardboard packages was examined by Mrówczy ński et al [24,25]. The use of recycled fibers in the production of paper and cardboard causes the fibers to become shorter and more brittle after many recovery cycles, and their ability to create a stable network of connections with other fibers keeps getting smaller over time.…”

“…Additional considerations involving corrugated cardboard boxes (CCBs) are optimal packaging material costs and sustainable development strategies within their product-packaging range [ 12 ]. Basically, the cost of CCB packaging depends on the number of layers and paper/cardboard quality, which are in relation to the mass used [ 13 ]. The latter, of course, impacts the cost of packaging solutions and the final mass for destruction or recycling after use.…”
