Optimal Design of a Novel Three-Phase High-Speed Flux Reversal Machine

Abstract: A single-phase flux reversal machine (FRM) has many advantages in high-speed applications because of its simple and reliable rotor structure without magnets or winding, simple and cheap concentrated stator windings, high efficiency, and power density. However, the major problem of single-phase motors is the high torque ripple, which shortens their lifetime and causes noise and vibrations, not only in the machine, but also in the mechanisms coupled therewith. This paper presents a novel three-phase machine cons… Show more

“…Therefore, a multiobjective optimization algorithm is needed to solve the aforementioned optimization problem. The multiobjective optimization based on one-criterion Nelder-Mead method which is a ready-to-use function in MATLAB package was coupled with the FE model of the EMMS [21]. The objective function (F) is formulated as follows.…”

“…Optimal design for electric machines based on finite element magnetic simulation consumes a lot of time, therefore, choosing a suitable optimization technique is necessary to obtain an optimal design for the electric machines with a reduced time computation [25]. Multi-objective optimization or Pareto optimization has proved its efficient in different electrical machine design [26][27][28]. Nelder-Mead method presented in [28] is a multi-objective optimization based on a single criterion method.…”

“…All of these algorithms can be applied using name-plate or load data during the operation of transformer without having to disconnect the transformer for testing purposes. Moreover, these algorithms can estimate three-phase transformer parameters as well as those of single-phase transformer [27], [28] and for optimal design of a three-phase high-speed flux reversal machine in [29].…”
