Optimal Design of a Hybrid Power System for a Remote Fishpond Based on Hydro-Turbine Performance Parameters

Milan Tomović,
Milena Gajić,
Dardan Klimenta
et al.

Abstract: This paper proposes an optimal solution for the design of a hybrid power system that will supply a remote fishpond in eastern Serbia. In terms of structure, this off-grid system should be a hydro-photovoltaic-diesel-converter-battery setup. The optimization objectives are to minimize total net present cost (NPC) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to maximize total annual electricity generation based on the modification of hydro-turbine performance. This study considers the following three cases of a hydro-… Show more

“…2. The water is then directed to the propeller S-turbine using an 8 m-long pipe with a diameter of 0.5 m. The S-turbine propeller was first designed and constructed with fixed propeller blades, but for the purposes of the research conducted in [4] and [31], it was optimised for operation with flow rates in the range of 90 l/s to 350 l/s. This hydro-turbine has a net head of 2.9 m and an efficiency of 85.37 %.…”

“…Due to the inaccessibility of certain isolated sites, powering them can be very difficult or too expensive. One of such sites is the Jablanica trout pond, which was built next to the Radovanska Reka mountain river in eastern Serbia [4] and which is taken here as a case study.…”
