Optimal Deployment of Antenna for Field Coverage in Coal Mine Tunnels

Abstract: A deployment strategy for antennas is proposed to enhance the field coverage of wireless devices in underground coal mines, which uses the multimodal approach. Based on the attenuation coefficient of each mode, the propagation loss of the vertically polarized modes with n = 1, 2, and 3 and that of the horizontally polarized modes with m = 1, 2, and 3 are less. For the signal propagation in the near-field region of the source, these modes play significant role. According to the coupling of the antenna to the mo… Show more

“…Due to the unique environment, the deployment and application of wireless communication systems in mines face significant challenges. Safety concerns, as well as the presence of dust and combustible gases, impose limitations on the transmitting power of radio frequency signals, which in turn affects signal coverage [18]. Moreover, the operation of large-scale production equipment often introduces crosstalk in communication signals, further complicating signal processing [19].…”

“…With the rapid development of modern society, demands for high-quality communication inside coal mines and tunnels are increasing [1][2][3][4][5]. The complex communication environment attenuates the propagation of microwaves, leading to unstable signals or communication interruptions.…”

“…Unlike the conditions on the ground, the problem of multifactorial interference is faced by mine 5G [9,10]. In main transport roadways, a large amount of strong electrical equipment, such as mining cable cars, high-voltage inverters, power boxes, and coal transportation systems, is stored.…”
