Optimal allocation of distributed generation and capacitor banks using probabilistic generation models with correlations

Abstract: The allocation of distributed generation and capacitor banks is critical for success in the planning of power grids. A methodology is developed for the optimal placement of distributed renewable generation (wind and photovoltaic powers) and capacitor banks is developed based on technical and economic parameters. In order to preserve the horoseasonal and stochastic dependence nature of the wind and solar power, the methodology uses a model that integrates the sequential Monte Carlo method and the diagonal band … Show more

“…An approach was developed relayed on the amount that the network radial feeder currents were reduced by DG units [23]. Thus, proper DG allocations (size and location) into the radial DN are required to minimize these problems [24], [25]. Various studies analyzed the integration of the DGs in the DNs from many points of view.…”

“…Installation of shunt capacitor banks has been regarded as a cost-effective and practical solution for power factor correction, voltage regulation, equipment capacity release, and energy loss reduction in power distribution grids [1,2]. The problem of optimal capacitor placement under sinusoidal voltages/currents is extensively studied in the literature [3,4].…”

“…Various feasible solutions are randomly generated, and the corresponding RIs are calculated using two methods: (1) comprehensive simulation, in which harmonic currents at different frequencies and buses are injected to the grid, and the maximum voltage IHD is considered for calculation of RI. (2) The proposed method, which employs the equations developed in section III, and in the interval [h−0.2, h+0.2] per unit. To facilitate the comparison, the symmetry line is also drawn in Figure 6.…”

“…Therefore, changing locations and improving the utilization efficiency of PVGs plugging in a DN can effectively improvie the overall performance of the DN [6]. In reference [7], a strategy was reported for the optimal placement of DGs and capacitor banks in a DN. To accomplish such an optimization process, a time-saving approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) was presented.…”
