Optical Switching of Erythrosine B Based Poly (Methacrylate) Films

Abstract: Erythrosine B based poly (methacrylate) films with varying even number of methylene spacers have been prepared by the free radical polymerization method. All optical switching and beam deflection effects of polymer films have been investigated by using Nd:YAG laser (532 nm) as a pump beam and a He-Ne laser (632.8 nm) as a probe beam. The nonlinear refractive indices of polymer films are determined using the Z-scan technique. The optical switching and beam deflection effects are due to the change of the refract… Show more

“…The nonlinear optical (NLO) material plays a key role in EO waveguide devices. Currently, multifarious NLO materials with high performance have been interested popularly [3, 4], because of their very attractive mechanical and EO properties, such as large nonlinearity, fast response time and low dielectric constant, which are synthesized by either containing the chromophore in chain configuration composite or incorporating it into the guest–host system [5]. In the crosslinking approach, the chromophore is covalently attached to the polymer either as a side pendant or as part of the main chain.…”
