Optical Sensing Platform for the Colorimetric Determination of Silver Nanoprisms and Its Application for Hydrogen Peroxide and Glucose Detections Using a Mobile Device Camera

Abstract: Silver nanoprisms (AgNPrs) have a unique localized surface plasmon resonance, resulting in strong absorption and scattering within the visible light region. In this work, we propose image acquisition from colloidal solutions of AgNPrs using a combination of transmitted and scattered light. The developed measurement technique could be carried out by separately recording transmitted and scattering images of the solutions, using a mobile device camera prior to a calculation of the empirical absorption value (IA).… Show more

“…As previously studied, 1-D grating structure exhibits the light polarization dependence for the excitation of propagating-surface plasmon in the OSCs 52 and LSPR of the metallic NPs and GCSPR of the grating-structured Al cathode 24,[33][34] . Moreover, the imprinted device with the Ag NDs-30 incorporated into the HTL exhibited the best performance, corresponding to the higher light scattering of Ag NDs-30 53 . In this study, the light-harvesting management using the Ag ND series together with the metallic grating is interesting to achieve the broadband plasmonic absorption as well as the highest device performance.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have unique optical characteristics in the visible-light region, which enables the monitoring of their LSPR properties by ultravioletvisible (UV-vis) spectrometry and cameras, as well as the naked eye. 1,2,[7][8][9][10][11] Colorimetric detection, benefiting from the LSPR phenomenon of these plasmonic nanomaterials, is used for several biosensor applications, including the detection of chemical compounds in the human body. [7][8][9][10][11] Urine is a liquid byproduct of the metabolism of the human body, extracted by the kidneys as a waste solution from the bloodstream along with excess products, such as water and sugar.…”

[7][8][9][10][11] Urine is a liquid byproduct of the metabolism of the human body, extracted by the kidneys as a waste solution from the bloodstream along with excess products, such as water and sugar. Three of the main chemicals often found in urine, namely creatinine, albumin, and glucose, can be detected by the colorimetric method based on LSPR.…”

“…Lertvachirapaiboon et al developed some types of colorimetric analyzing systems based on the SPR. [12][13][14] One utilizes the transmitted SPR (TSPR) phenomenon on a Au-coated grating. 12 The other systems are based on a localized SPR (LSPR) phenomenon by the Ag nanoprisms (AgNPrs).…”

“…12 The other systems are based on a localized SPR (LSPR) phenomenon by the Ag nanoprisms (AgNPrs). 13,14 Color images of light transmitted light passed through a sensor cell or micro channel cells were captured and analyzed with ImageJ. These systems allowed one to measure the concentrations of the ethylene glycol, glucose, and hydrogen peroxide.…”
