“…By diagonalising the energy matrices for d 5 configuration, the clearly resolved band observed at 520 nm in the optical absorption spectra of PbO-Nb 2 O 5 -P 2 O 5 :MnO glasses (containing MnO up to 1.0 mol%) is assigned to 6 A 1g (S) → 4 T 1g (G) transitions and the crystal field parameter D q and Racah interelectronic repulsion parameter B have been determined as 695 and 780 cm −1 , respectively. The values of the D q and B obtained are consistent with the values reported in the literature for number of other glass systems [37,[50][51][52]. From these values, it may be concluded that in this concentration range divalent manganese ions occupy octahedral positions.…”

“…[35] That is to say, the electron transition characteristics of the central ions can potentially be tuned via control of the nature of the metal-ligand interactions. Guided by the theoretical prediction, two different local environments of GaO 6 and BaO 6 octahedron are employed, since they show notable differences, including the inter-nuclear distance of GaÀO and BaÀO bonds and the local arrangement.…”

“…Thus, we have concentrated on studies on Ni 2+ ions mainly. Relaxation of excited Ni 2+ ions in glass hosts takes place through non-radiative transitions [2] though relaxation in crystalline hosts such as LiGa 5 O 8 [3] and MgF 2 [4] does occur only radiatively at room temperature. Thus, transparent glass-ceramics with transition metal ions incorporated into crystalline phases appear promising for use as novel materials.…”
