Optical Properties of SbSI Photonic Crystals

Abstract: This paper presents optical properties of SiO2 opals inltrated with SbSI and inverted SbSI opals for the rst time. Registered reectance spectra exhibit Bragg's peaks connected with photonic band gap. Calculated photonic band structure has been compared with experimental results.

“…It is convenient, fast, mild, and ecient. The main optical properties of these photonic crystals were investigated by reectance spectroscopy for wavelengths from 280 nm to 1000 nm [11]. These measurements exhibit Bragg's peaks connected with photonic band gap that is tunable in position and width by varying the medium lling the opal [11].…”

These measurements exhibit Bragg's peaks connected with photonic band gap that is tunable in position and width by varying the medium lling the opal [11]. However, taking into account the fact that SbSI being a semiconductor ferroelectric has an unusually large number of interesting properties (among them there are the pyroelectric, pyro-optic, piezoelectric, electromechanical, electrooptic and other nonlinear optical eects), one should expect novel applications of SbSI inverted opals.…”

“…electric field or temperature. Recently [2][3][4] antimony sulfoiodide has been used for the fabrication of photonic crystal with inverted opal structure. SbSI is a ferroelectric semiconductor with relatively high refractive index strongly dependent on temperature [5] and external electric field, especially near its Curie point (T C ¼292(1) K) [6] so, it is potentially very useful in fabrication of tunable photonic crystals.…”
