Optical Properties of Polyvinyl Alcohol Films Modified with Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films modified with Ag nanoparticles and orientated by single-axial tension do not possess dichroism at light passing as well as the film that is cross-linked under the action of bichromates and UV light. These films are double-ray refracting and behave themselves as phase plates that transform linearly polarized incident radiation to elliptically polarized one. The film of latter type has optical properties of reflective diffuse polarizer with polarizing ability ~0.8 in the range of ob… Show more

“…This change in absorption behavior in the visible region after irradiation is manifested also by the modification in perceived color. Indeed, under the effect of radiation the color undergoes a deviation from yellow to dark yellowish-brown after reduction of NBT [ 57 , 58 ] and from yellow to dark green following the reduction of silver [ 61 ]. Moreover, the maximum absorption of the different spectra gradually shifted, with the increase in X-ray doses, from 462 to 472 nm (with a dose of 20 mGy).…”

“…PVA was used as a polymer matrix because it forms highly viscous aqueous solutions, which, like the films obtained therefrom have a high optical transparency and they stabilized Ag NPs [18]. This synthesis is easy to fulfill, not costly and environmentally clean [13].…”

“…When doped with iodine, PVA can be used to polarize light, and is not prepared by polymerization of the corresponding monomer. 8 Shao et al 9 studied optical properties of PVA coated In 2 O 3 nanoparticles performed with photoluminescence. 9 Mahendia et al 10 studied optical and structural properties of PVA¯lms embedded with citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles.…”
