Optical properties of polymeric materials and their measurement

Abstract: The paper puts forward a system of magnitudes for characterizing the optical properties of polymeric materials or, in general, inhomogeneous media. Two categories of magnitudes can be distinguished: those which depend on the average value of the molecular parameters (describing refraction phenomena) and those which depend on the degree of inhomogeneity of the medium (describing scattering properties). The characteristics in the second category are subsumed under the headings `transparency' and `light transfer'.… Show more

“…The two sectors T AA and T AZ involve 32 diagrams each, while the T ZZ correlator includes 70 diagrams. The computation of these diagrams is rather involved and has been performed in DR using the on-shell renormalization scheme [23] and the t'Hooft-Veltman prescription for γ 5 matrix. We have used a reduction of tensor integrals to the scalar form and checked explicitly all the Ward and STI's derived in the previous sections.…”

“…Ultraviolet (UV) divergences are treated within dimensional regularization. We use the on-shell renormalization scheme [ 15], following the formulation worked out in Ref. [ 16] for the conventional formalism and in Ref.…”

“…The study of the optical absorption spectra is one of the most interesting methods for developing an understanding of the structure and energy gap of polymeric materials [11,12]. The measurements of the optical absorption were carried out to detect the effect of these ratios of embedding the PEG in the PVA.…”
