Optical properties of Dy3+doped yttrium–aluminium borate

Abstract: A Dy 3+ doped yttrium-aluminium borate (Dy:YAB) crystal has been optically characterized. The refractive indices at seven different wavelengths, ranging from the visible to the near infrared (IR), have been measured and the Sellmeier curves have been calculated. The polarized optical absorption spectra have been obtained at room temperature, and the Judd-Ofelt parameters have been calculated. The lifetime of the upper laser level 4 F 9/2 has been estimated and compared with the experimental value. Evidence of … Show more

“…The cell parameters of GdAl 3 (BO 3 ) 4 are a = 0.93 nm, c = 0.72 nm and the space group is R32 [2]. The GdAl 3 (BO 3 ) 4 is hexagonal phase and isostructural with huntite CaMg 3 (CO 3 ) 4 , Dy 3+ ion has replaced the site of Gd 3+ ion in this host [20,21]. In other words, the doped Dy 3+ ions have entered the host lattice of GdAl 3 (BO 3 ) 4 and do not change the crystal structure [22].…”

“…By suitably adjusting Y/B value, it is possible to obtain near-white emission with Dy 3+ -activated luminescent materials [31]. Therefore, Dy 3+ doped luminescent materials may find potential application as two primary color phosphor and environmentally friendly rare earth based pigments and so on [20]. As depicted in Fig.…”

“…It presents many optical applications when doped with rare earth ions like Sm 3+ , Yb 3+ , Tb 3+ , Dy 3 ,Tm 3+ , Gd 3+ and Eu 3+ [3][4][5][6][7][8]. The optical properties of rare earth ions (Tm 3+ , Sm 3+ , Er 3+ ) in YAB host have been studied in our previous work and the crystal field parameters were calculated [9][10][11][12].…”
