Optical properties and laser prediction of strontium bismuth borate glasses doped with neodymium Ions

Abstract: Neodymium strontium bismuth borate glass samples were prepared using the traditional technique of high-temperature melting. The optical absorption spectra of the studied samples were recorded at room temperature. Analyzing the recorded spectra, important optical parameters were determined; for example, refractive index, optical dielectric constant, the indirect optical band gap and Urbach energy. The calculated Judd-Ofelt parameters exhibited trend which is Ω 2 >Ω 6 >Ω 4 . Moreover, the experimental and ca… Show more

“…When incorporated into a suitable host glass network, samarium provides good luminescence in the visible region [7, 9]. The emission of the Sm 3+ ions is not influenced by the high phonon energy, which is why borate glass are widely used in doping with samarium [10, 12, 13, 23–30]. Samarium is considered a promising material for use in optical fibres, specifically in optical amplifiers [22].…”

“…Judd-Ofelt model evaluation was also performed to complement experimental spectroscopic results. It is worth noting that the choice of a telluroborate glass host was driven by its salient features, as reported elsewhere [26,34,35]. While strontium and aluminium-containing glasses enhance the nonlinear optical properties, compactness, and chemical durability of glass hosts [36,37], MgO as a modifier prevents crystallization of the glass melt [38].…”
