Optical properties and electronic structure of V2O5, V2O3 and VO2

Abstract: The electronic structure of the three main vanadium oxides—V2O3, VO2 and V2O5—is reviewed. The optical properties of vanadium pentoxide thin films were determined. It was found that a direct allowed transition is the most probable one in the studied vanadium pentoxide thin films.

“…The comparison of the phase fractions in the inset table in Figure S3 shows a significant increase in the band gap from 1.7 to 2.3 eV, particularly for the V 2 O 5 phase. On the other hand, the defined 2.3 eV band gap energy is close to the data reported previously. , This implies that the visible-light transmittance of the multivalent vanadium oxide thin films originates by the V 2 O 5 phase. Besides, the surface morphology study shows that the porous film after heat treatment was applied (Figure S4).…”

“…This edge shifts to much lower wavelength of 350 nm after heat treatment. This occurs due to inter-band transition [21]. Figure 4a) the transmittance decreases after heat treatment, as expected.…”
